South Poll breed is a composite breed made up of four different breeds, including Barzona, Hereford, Senepol, and Red Angus. They are bred for heat tolerance, calving ease, strong maternal traits, and the ability to thrive in a mostly grass-fed environment.
South Poll Grass Cattle are a usually all red, but some will have white markings. They are a medium-frame size breed, developed to marble on forage/grass and handle southern heat. They have a gentle and docile temperament. Polled cattle are born without horns.
They are good mothers that wean a robust calf on mostly forage. Longevity is in the genes of these animals. Mountain Glen Farm has them start producing a calf as a two-year old heifer, and they can continue producing yearly well into their mid to late teens.
